Recall the dances in high school? The pep rallies were you cheered so loudly you lost your voice? Ilocos Sur National High School recently celebrated its 122nd foundation day, and it seemed very much like the days before the pandemic! It was wonderful to be back together and celebrate our school with friends and teachers after all that time apart.

Foundation Day was an important event. There would be excitement across the whole school. Weeks would pass before the planned parade, in which each class would showcase our hometown customs while dressed in colourful outfits and upbeat music. Really great, huh? Even a ride on a kalesa would be given to the most popular boys and girls.

Although the march this year wasn't as big as those held before the pandemic, the enthusiasm was strong. We were still able to display our school pride, and since we hadn't been able to for so long, it seemed very special. Even competitions were held! It was so much delight to watch some grades do these incredible dances and support them. Despite our girl team placed third, it's still great news that our grade 10 boys did so well!
But the best part? Teachers and students together on stage, singing our hearts out at the "Concert for a Cause." It was more about having fun and raising money for good causes than it was about winning. The ideal way to cap off a wonderful day was for taking part in great food and activities from booths.
On the foundation day of Ilocos Sur National High School, more than simply the school's past was commemorated. It was a celebration of both educators and learners coming together once more as one huge school family. It was a reminder of how much fun we could have in high school and how much we missed those happy moments. I'm looking forward to many more days of foundation!
